aboutWhile planning for a women’s Christmas party for my church six years ago, God gave me the idea to take this concept into the Curtis Bay area.

The idea was to combine celebration with outreach. As we planned, the compassion in my heart grew. All the while, my Pastor was praying for more people to be involved in the ongoing ministry in Curtis Bay. The morning of the Christmas party, as I prayed, I received a distinct vision from God to offer the women of the community a life group right in their very own backyard. The party was a hit, and women came to know God. My heart was stirred again to begin looking for a meeting place to facilitate this vision.

As we developed, the vision grew for a place to offer resources and love to the women of the community. Five years passed and after much personal struggle, God again gave me the vision of this “place.” He had to prepare my heart and grow in me a deep love for the community and the people there that He would put in my life. The scripture that God gave to me that revived my heart was Luke 9:62: “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” I knew that God had directed me to begin the process of opening a non-profit organization to benefit the families in the Curtis Bay and surrounding areas.

The Well, formally known as Drink at the Well, will provide for women by connecting them to resources, mentorship, counseling, training sessions, etc. It exists as a place to teach women to live above the challenges of life with the help of God and His people.  It has been designed to equip women with a help up instead of a handout. Although The Well is a faith-based organization, representing many denominations, it serves women of all faiths. I am excited as we watch the Lord’s hand at work and lives changed. It is only by His grace and direction that this could be accomplished!    Director, Mandy Memmel
